Regelm\u00e4\u00dfig wird der Flughafen gesperrt und die Anwohner werden aufgefordert, in ihren H\u00e4user bleiben und drau\u00dfen Masken zu tragen \u2013 aus Angst vor den gesundheitlichen Folgen. Doch wie steht es tats\u00e4chlich um die Luftqualit\u00e4t? Wie gef\u00e4hrdet sind die Menschen vor den giftigen \u2013 aber unsichtbaren \u2013 Stoffen in der Luft? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Um genaue Erkenntnisse zu gewinnen, unterst\u00fctzt die Palas GmbH aus Karlsruhe nun die spanischen Beh\u00f6rden auf der Kanareninsel La Palma dabei, die Luftqualit\u00e4t an verschiedenen Messpunkten zu \u00fcberwachen. Daf\u00fcr hat der Experte f\u00fcr Aerosoltechnologie kurzfristig und unkompliziert neun seiner neuesten Ger\u00e4te auf La Palma bereitgestellt. Um bestm\u00f6glich an auf die unsicheren Gegebenheiten vorbereitet zu sein, wurden diese im Vorfeld analysiert und letzte, individuelle Anpassungen an der Technik vorgenommen. Das Besondere: Die Messdaten werden im Minutentakt aktualisiert und k\u00f6nnen von \u00fcberall auf der neuen Datenplattform MyAtmosphere abgerufen und visualisiert werden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Das ist MyAtmosphere<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MyAtmosphere wurde von Palas entwickelt und ist \u2013 kurz gesagt \u2013 das modernste Umweltmesssystem f\u00fcr Smart Cities und gro\u00dfe Areale. Auf der Datenplattform k\u00f6nnen die Palas-Messger\u00e4te zu einem Messnetz zusammengeschlossen werden und die gesammelten Daten sind auf einen Blick verf\u00fcgbar. Unabh\u00e4ngig davon, in welchem Gebiet die Luftqualit\u00e4t gemessen und beobachtet werden soll: \u00dcber die Datenplattform sehen die Anwender aktuelle und pr\u00e4zise Messergebnisse, die in Echtzeit aufbereitet und visualisiert werden. Damit lassen sich einfach, schnell und ohne jeden Aufwand die notwendigen Ma\u00dfnahmen ableiten. Und genau das ben\u00f6tigen die Beh\u00f6rden auf La Palma.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Projektteam war vier Tage vor Ort<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Am 15. November machten sich vier Palas-Mitarbeiter, darunter auch CEO Dr. Maximilian Wei\u00df, auf den Weg nach La Palma. Wie der Kontakt mit den Beh\u00f6rden auf La Palma zustande kam, erkl\u00e4rt der Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrer: \u201eWir sind in ganz Europa bekannt f\u00fcr unsere Feinstaubmessger\u00e4te \u2013 sowohl in \u00f6ffentlichen Messnetzen als auch bei wissenschaftlichen Anwendungen. Und so kam es, dass wir letztlich \u00fcber einen Kontakt \u2013 von Island \u00fcber Barcelona nach La Palma \u2013 gefragt wurden, ob wir Messger\u00e4te auch auf La Palma installieren k\u00f6nnen, um dort die Luftqualit\u00e4t zu \u00fcberwachen.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Palas hat zwar bereits Ger\u00e4te auf der ganzen Welt installiert \u2013 unter anderem bereits auf der Kanareninsel - doch der Einsatz in der N\u00e4he eines aktiven Vulkans ist selbst f\u00fcr den Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrer au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlich. \u201eWir messen mit unseren Ger\u00e4ten an unterschiedlichen Orten mit vielen unterschiedlichen Gegebenheiten wie z. B. auf der Zugspitze, auf dem Jungfraujoch, in W\u00fcsten, im Himalaya sowie auch an Baustellen oder in Industriegebieten mit extremer Staubbelastung. Doch wir wussten nicht, wie extrem die Bedingungen vor Ort auf La Palma tats\u00e4chlich sein werden, wie gef\u00e4hrlich es ist, was uns dort genau erwartet. So etwas haben wir selbst auch noch nicht erlebt.\u201c<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vor Ort \u2013 erste Eindr\u00fccke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Auf La Palma angekommen, macht die Insel erst einmal einen sehr friedlichen Eindruck. Der Flughafen ist auf der \u2013 sicheren - Ostseite der Insel, der Vulkan ist nicht zu sehen, auch keine Aschewolke. Alles wirkt normal. Mietwagen abholen, und los geht\u2019s zu den Ger\u00e4ten. Diese wurden bereits vorab auf die Insel geschickt und m\u00fcssen erst einmal ausgepackt und gepr\u00fcft werden. Dann ging es schon los zur ersten Messstation. Wo die Ger\u00e4te angebracht werden sollten, wurde in einer Online-Konferenz vorab besprochen. In zwei Tagen reisen die Palas-Mitarbeiter an neun Stationen, klettern auf Hausd\u00e4cher und Garagen, installieren ein Ger\u00e4t in einer Schule und eines in einen mobilen Messbus ganz in der N\u00e4he des Vulkans. Unterst\u00fctzt wurden sie von lokalen Mitarbeitern, die \u2013 wie alle Einwohner, mit denen sie vor Ort sprachen \u2013 \u00fcber das Projekt und die gewonnenen Daten sehr dankbar waren.<\/p>\n<p>Der erste freie Blick auf den Vulkan war ern\u00fcchternd. Nichts als schwarzer Rauch auf einem hohen Berg. \u201eEin bisschen spektakul\u00e4rer h\u00e4tten wir uns das schon vorgestellt\u201c, erkl\u00e4rt Ann-Kathrin Go\u00dfmann, Projektleiterin bei Palas. Doch am Abend ver\u00e4ndert der Vulkan sein Gesicht: spuckende rote Lava ist zu sehen und der gesamte Berg ist von einem roten Schimmer umgeben. Die Ger\u00e4usche, die der Vulkan von sich gibt, erinnern an eine Meeresbrandung. Die Gefahr f\u00fcr die Gesundheit wird pl\u00f6tzlich real und man kann sich vorstellen, dass hier einiges in der Luft liegt. In der zweiten Nacht werden die Palas-Mitarbeiter von einem Erdbeben geweckt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Die Menschen vor Ort \u2013 Normalit\u00e4t <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Was f\u00fcr Maximilian Wei\u00df und seine Mitarbeiter neu und aufregend ist, ist f\u00fcr die Menschen vor Ort l\u00e4ngst Normalit\u00e4t. Regelm\u00e4\u00dfig und mehrmals in der Woche m\u00fcssen Stra\u00dfen und Gehsteige von der herabfallenden Asche befreit werden. Die Menschen tragen mal mehr mal weniger konsequent ihre Maske. Ob wegen Corona oder wegen der Asche in der Luft. Man wei\u00df es nicht genau. Auch an der Schule geht alles wieder seinen Gang \u2013 obwohl die Kinder, wenn sie aus dem Fenster blicken, einen direkten Blick auf den aktiven Vulkan haben und st\u00e4ndig Asche vom Schuldach gekehrt wird.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anschlie\u00dfen, anschalten, fertig<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Um die neun Ger\u00e4te anzuschlie\u00dfen ben\u00f6tigten das Palas Team keine 48 Stunden, obwohl sie daf\u00fcr einmal um die ganze Insel fahren mussten, um ein Luftqualit\u00e4ts-Messnetz aufzubauen. Im Schnitt dauerte die Installation am jeweiligen Aufstellort einschlie\u00dflich Inbetriebnahme in der Cloud weniger als 2 Stunden. Die Messdaten werden auf die Datenplattform MyAtmosphere \u00fcbertragen, auf der dann ein umfassendes Lagebild dargestellt wird. Die Beh\u00f6rden vor Ort sind so in der Lage, die Situation besser einzusch\u00e4tzen und entsprechend zu reagieren. Dabei gibt es viele Einflussfaktoren auf die Luftqualit\u00e4t, wie etwa die Windrichtung. Daher muss das neue Messnetz die gesamte Insel und nicht nur die unmittelbare Umgebung des Cumbre Vieja umspannen<\/p>\n<p>\u201eDie Installation verlief reibungslos \u2013 Plug &amp; Measure quasi: Anschlie\u00dfen, anschalten und mit wenigen Klicks waren die Ger\u00e4te im Netzwerk der My-Atmosphere-Datenplattform sichtbar\u201c, erkl\u00e4rt Ann-Kathrin Go\u00dfmann. \u201eDas gr\u00f6\u00dfte Problem vor Ort war es, auf die D\u00e4cher zu kommen, wo die Ger\u00e4te angebracht wurden und ein kurzzeitiger Mangel an Verl\u00e4ngerungskabeln.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Was erhoffen sich die Beh\u00f6rden nun von den Messdaten? Maximilian Wei\u00df: \u201eEs geht nicht darum, alle Bewohner zu evakuieren. Es geht darum, dass wir bzw. die Beh\u00f6rden vor Ort, durch die Messungen besser einsch\u00e4tzen k\u00f6nnen, wo die Luftbelastung so hoch ist, dass man sich dort nicht mehr aufhalten darf. Die Insel ist von der Topografie aus sehr komplex: Es gibt mit Sicherheit Orte, an denen die Luftqualit\u00e4t sehr gut ist, aber im westlichen Teil der Insel gibt es auch die extreme Belastung durch den Vulkan und dort besteht tats\u00e4chlich die Gefahr, dass die Sperrzone ausgeweitet werden muss.\u201c<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abreise und weitere Schritte<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nach drei Tagen stand f\u00fcr die vier Mitarbeiter die R\u00fcckreise an \u2013 doch der Flugverkehr war \u2013 wieder einmal \u2013 zum Erliegen gekommen. Zu viel Asche auf der Rollbahn, denn der Wind hatte in der Nacht gedreht. Also ab auf die F\u00e4hre nach Teneriffa und von dort in den Flieger nach Hause.<\/p>\n<p>Nun \u00fcberwacht Palas das Ganze von Karlsruhe aus und steht mit den Beh\u00f6rden weiterhin in Kontakt, um sie hinsichtlich der Messdaten weiter zu beraten.<\/p>\n<p>Aber wie ist denn nun die Luftqualit\u00e4t auf der Insel? Dr. Wei\u00df: \u201eTats\u00e4chlich sind die Messdaten nicht mehr so schlimm, wie sie zu Beginn des Ausbruchs waren. Doch gibt es immer wieder Spitzen, in denen die Belastung \u00fcber den empfohlenen Grenzwert geht. Dann gilt es kurzzeitig zu reagieren, wie es die Beh\u00f6rden ja bereits machen mit zeitweisen Ausgangssperren. Das gilt es weiter zu beobachten und zu hoffen, dass der Vulkan seine Aktivit\u00e4t bald einstellt.\u201c<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium
